Pondicherry's Shades of Blue

Pondicherry, is a place where French meets South India, white becomes tropical yellow, there is sea water in every breath and fragile old spirits wander around on bicycles. This essay tries to convey a part of what Pondicherry is the way I felt it. Hope you like it. :)

It was a part of the IIT Delhi 2011 Golden Jubilee Celebrations Photography Exhibhition.

Lath Maar Holi

Black And White

May 21st, 2010

Black and white photographs change the way we attach importance to the elements in a photograph. When everything is a shade of gray we tend to look deeper into the photograph to see what’s happening instead of being misled by saturation, brightness and colors.

I feel that black and white photography is sacred.? You shoot, you develop your film, you enlarge your negatives and make prints.? There is nobody else involved anywhere in the process.

All things said, there are some things which demand to be shot in full color ;)

When you start developing on your own, the feeling when you see your developed, semi-wet film against light for the first time is like ecstasy.

I recently acquired an old dusty enlarger and hope to start making my own prints in sometime.

Check out my first batch of bw photographs at flickr.
